Gerry Spatharis
Gerry trained as a Solution-focused therapist in 2003 through Eileen Murphy Consultants and continued to develop her training and practice with Solution Focused Trainers Ltd in and holds IASTI certification (International Alliance of Solution Focused Teachers) and is a member of the UKASP (United Kingdom Association of Solution Focused Practitioners). She has over 30 years experience working with young people and adults.
Gerry finds Solution-focused therapy really effective and is passionate about helping others. Solution-focused therapy differs from Counselling in that it looks at changing the thought pattern - what life would be like if the problem was no longer there. The problem is still acknowledged and listened to - as in Counselling - but Solution-focused therapy is tailored differently and works to move a person out of a cycle of negativity. It is effective for all ages and is a pro-active, refreshing look at issues. It is an approach that was developed by a ‘break-away’ group who were also part of creating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Solution-focused therapy focuses on possibility rather than behaviour. It is particularly good with neurodivergent people.
Gerry continues to work part-time for West Berkshire Council and is part of the Emotional Health Academy. She is a continual student and loves learning. She also has a Foundation diploma in teaching Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural (qualifying at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre) and a Masters in Psychology.
